MINI DIY: updating a winter jumper

EXHIBIT A: an orange, thrifted, winter jumper.

Some of my older followers might remember a post a few weeks ago where I 'upcycled' a vintage black dress I bought. The process involved cutting off some rather dated puffy sleeves and what I was left with seemed too good to simply chuck away.

This lacey piece of fabric seemed difficult to work with, because of the elastic which cinched it in a quarter of a way down. Despite this, I jumped in with my scissors to try and re-use the end piece of sheer lace. (to the left of this photo)

After my frantic cutting, I was left with a rather elegant looking, decent length of fabric, perfect for a pretty collar addition to my jumper, what a brilliant planned coincidence... (?)

My lovely Janome sewed the fabric to the top of the jumper, I used a small stitch so I could be sure it was secured to the knit. Pinning small folds in the piece of lace and then sewing over them gives the appearance of frills and pleating

EXHIBIT B: winter jumper complete with girly collar.

This method of upcycling is really easy and can be done with many fabric/colour combinations. I dare you to grab some scrap fabric and play about by pinning it onto an item of clothing and see what you come up with. You might be able to wear something again, with pride(!), that you haven't worn for years!
